About Brewster
This town is an historic sea captains' town located on
the bay side of Cape Cod. It was established in 1803 and encompasses
approximately twenty three square miles, which include over 325 acres of
beach and marshlands. With its 24 ponds it provides plenty fishing
opportunities. To protect its open space and water quality, the town
took steps by purchasing almost 700 acres of land in 1985.
At this point, more than one third of the land has been retained for
conservation, open space, recreation and watershed protection. Therefore
it has to offer award-winning drinking water. For the golf lovers it has
two nationally acclaimed 18-hole golf courses. One of its plenty
recreation sites is Nickerson State Park. It contains 400 acres of
trails for biking and hiking, camping areas, and freshwater ponds for
swimming, fishing and boating.
It has over 15 bed and breakfast inns and over 30 art galleries, craft
shops and antique shops, most of which are along historic Route 6A,
which is also called "King's Highway". Its year round population of
about 8,400 grows to about 20,000 in the summer season as visitors come
to sample the diversions of this beautiful town.
It is located in southeastern Massachusetts, at the inside bend of the
elbow of Cape Cod, MA. Bordered by Cape Cod Bay on the north, Orleans on
the east, Harwich on the south, and Dennis on the west. It is 16 miles
east of Hyannis; 83 miles southeast of Boston; 87 miles east of
Providence, Rhode Island.
