Brewster in Bloom has been a part of the town of Brewster for 31 years now, signaling the end of the long, harsh winter and the beginning of spring for residents and visitors alike. Brewster in Bloom spans an entire weekend in May and it includes a variety of activities throughout Brewster to help you put the winter behind you and get excited for the warm weather ahead. Residents and visitors from over the bridge look forward to this town wide event every year, bringing people out of hibernation to enjoy the beautiful town of Brewster. So how did this town wide celebration of spring begin? Here is a brief history of the Brewster in Bloom that has been a part of the town of Brewster for over 30 years.

The Beginning of the Brewster in Bloom

The Beginning of the Brewster in Bloom

Back in 1986, over 31 years ago, a group of local business owners decided to collectively plant daffodils along Route 6A. Hundreds of bright yellow daffodil blooms decorated the side of the route for all to enjoy. The beautiful yellow blooms all along the popular route taken by most Cape Cod residents and visitors at that time was a bright and cheerful way to mark the end of the cold and dark of the winter months and usher in the bright warmth of spring. This simple gesture to plant daffodils along the side of the road is what inspired what we know as the Brewster in Bloom. It has turned into a 3 day event in the town of Brewster to celebrate the end of winter and beginning of spring. No one could have guessed that his small gesture to brighten the day of those driving down the road, turned into such a popular event that draws in crowds to partake in the spring time fun!

How the Brewster in Bloom has Bloomed

The Brewster in Bloom has gone from an out of the box idea of local businesses in town to brighten up Route 6A to a collaboration between the town of Brewster and the Brewster Chamber of Commerce that attracts visitors every year. The Brewster in Bloom festival has become so much more than enjoying the beautiful blooms of the season, it has become a community wide event that brings everyone out of hibernation, bring them back together to enjoy the beautiful town of Brewster and the warmer weather. Currently, there are over 80 local businesses as well as a number of local residents that participate in putting together this event, which draws visitors from all over to the small town to partake in the festivities. Residents enjoy it because it is something fun to do for the family or on your own, and an opportunity to meet up with neighbors or new friends. Visitors of the Cape make the trip to the small town of Brewster to also partake in the fun and enjoy this beautiful place we live in.
