Top 6 Cape Cod Kids Winter Activities

June 28, 2019 | By Michael Leighton

It is winter time on Cape Cod which means instead of spending our time on the beach or enjoying all that Cape Cod has to offer, everyone is cooped up for the winter. However, if you have kids you know they can not be inside for too long before cabin fever sets in for both the kids and the parents! Here are our top 6 Cape Cod kids winter activities to cure your restlessness and get out and about again!

Movies

In the Mid to Outer Cape area, there are multiple movie theaters to choose from to take in a new release with the kids. The Outer Cape has the Wellfleet Cinema, which is located right next door to the Wellfleet Drive In on Route 6 in Wellfleet. Chatham has the Chatham Orpheum Theater which occasionally offers family friendly movies on one of their two screens. Food from their cafe and beverages are permitted in the theaters, giving you more than just popcorn and candy as your snacking options as you take in a movie.

In Dennis there is a theater at Patriots Square, Entertainment Cinema and on Route 6A, there is Cape Cinema. Typically Cape Cinema offers adult movies but every once in awhile a more family friendly title is available. Entertainment Cinema has 12 theaters, with plenty of movies to choose from. Hyannis is home to the largest movie theater in the area which is located right outside of the Cape Cod Mall. The Regal Cinema offers stadium seating and a little arcade which is a little smaller than the one at Entertainment Cinema.

Bowling

Cape Cod gained a new bowling destination this year which has everyone buzzing. Ten Pin Eatery not only offers bowling, but they have a large arcade, laser tag and escape room to enjoy with family and friends. There is a large bar and restaurant so you could really spend the day at Ten Pin and everyone would be happy.

Ryan Family Amusements has two locations to choose from, one on Main Street in Hyannis and one in South Yarmouth on Route 28 which offers both big balls and candlepin bowling. There are arcades at both locations, and the South Yarmouth Location has a bar where you can take in all of the excitement

The Orleans Bowling Center is located on Route 6A, close to exit 12 on Route 6 in Orleans. Within the bowling center there is a restaurant which offers lane side dining so you can do bowling and lunch or dinner at the same time. There is a kids menu, take out, a bar and house smoked barbecue which keeps the locals coming back and making it part of their winter routine.

Swimming

The Cape Codder Resort in Hyannis has an entire 30,000 square foot indoor and outdoor water park that is open to the public. The water park is open 7 days per week, but the hours change daily and online reservations are suggested to guarantee a spot for the day. Passes are $40 per person, $30 for children under 48 inches tall and a non swimming “spectator” pass is $20. Children under 3 years of age are free.

The Four Points by Sheraton located on Route 6 in Eastham opens their pool to the public year round, offering pool passes for a fee. The Chatham Health and Swim Club located on Crowell Road in Chatham also offers day passes for their pool, but make sure you bring your own towel.

Museums

Cape Cod has a rich history, which means that there is an array of museums in the area where you can learn all about this beautiful place we call home. If you are heading to one of the many museums here on Cape Cod (or even off Cape), check with your local library to see if they have discount passes available for your destination. Some passes will save you a couple of dollars, while others could save you more than 50%. Check out our blog for more money saving tips, “Cape Cod Children’s Activities – Free and Discounted.”

The Cape Cod Museum of Natural History in Brewster has an ever changing variety of programs, lectures and workshops throughout the season so there’s always something new going on. The Whydah Pirate Museum on Route 28 in Yarmouth contains artifacts and treasure that were collected from the famous pirate ship that was found right off the coast of Cape Cod. The Cape Cod Children’s Museum is a favorite for little kids, located in Mashpee. There is a giant tree house in the center of the museum and a little village set up for make believe play.

Ice Skating

There are two indoor ice skating rinks where you can strap on some skates and have some fun with the family. You’re already bundled up for the cold, so you might as well get on the ice for some family fun. The Charles Moore arena is located in Orleans not too far from the highway, Route 6A and Route 28. The Tony Kent arena is located in Dennis, around the corner from Patriot’s Square. Both offer free skate which can be found on their websites and skate rental.
