It is also home to Nickerson State Park – the Cape’s largest state forest where there are fresh water ponds for swimming and canoeing, as well as hiking and biking trails. The Cape Cod Rail Trail runs through Brewster and links up to Nickerson’s trail network. Brewster also features two renowned golf courses: the Ocean Edge Golf Club – the Cape’s only Nicklaus Design course, and the Captains Golf Course – the Cape’s premier public golf course facility. It is also home to the herring run at Stony Brook Grist Mill
as well as the playground at Drummer Boy Park, the fabulous Brewster Ladies Library, and the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History with its 400 acres of bayside nature trails.
Brewster in Bloom is a 30-year tradition in town held the first weekend in May and is a great way to celebrate spring. There are antiques, arts & craft shows, golfing tournaments, a kid fest at Drummer Boy Park, a band concert, a 5K Bloom Run, and a parade.
Brewster for the Holidays is an annual 3 day festival which is held on the first weekend of December. Join in the Gallery Stroll, the Illumination Ceremony at Drummer Boy Park with carol sing-a-long and cocoa, the Holiday Band Concert, an arts and crafts show and a Gala Family Party at the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History.
The Annual Brewster Brew Run is a 5.2 mile road race held the second Saturday of August that attracts over 2,000 runners and many spectators (both residents and tourists). It features a large prize giveaway after the race, and is an excellent fundraiser for Brewster Fire and Rescue.
THINGS TO DO IN BREWSTER
The outdoors beckons in this quiet town. Stroll the miles of beaches and enjoy the nature surrounding you. Soak in the sun and watch the sunsets over Cape Cod Bay and sunrises from the east-facing beaches of neighboring Orleans. Go for a swim or a paddle in one of Brewster’s fresh water ‘kettle’ ponds. The Cape Cod Rail Trail and the bike paths of Nickerson State Park provide a variety of trails for cyclists of all levels. Golfers have a wide array of options across the Cape.
On rainy days, explore the many antique and art galleries along Route 6A. Browse the shops, galleries and restaurants in nearby Chatham Center. For more serious shopping, check out the Cape Cod Mall the shops and cafes along Main Street in Hyannis. For a more unique experience, take a drive up to Provincetown and explore the wonderful shops, galleries and eateries along Commercial Street. If you are feeling energetic, climb the staircase in Pilgrim Monument and visit its museum.
